Holcim Philippines, Inc. – La Union Plant and La Union Cement Workers Union (LUCWU) recently sealed a new deal following peaceful negotiations for their collective bargaining agreement.
The negotiations began about two weeks after the last CBA expired. Parties met in four occasions spanning two months beginning in April 2022 until June 2022.
The new collective bargaining agreement provides an increase in the monthly salary of the members despite the business situation in the Philippines. There was a shift in the way both the union and the management discussed the section pertaining to wages.
Provisions granted in the CBA include scholarship for selected employee dependent and a union education fund, as well as Labor Day assistance fund. Members will receive a signing bonus iced by another goodwill bonus from the management.
Based on a conversation with LUCWU President Gomer Julaton, transparency between the parties made the negotiations a success, particularly on the financial standing of the company.
The new agreement will benefit a total of 67 union members effective 2022 until March 2027 with the economic provisions due for re-negotiations after three years. Formal signing of the CBA is due very soon.
The collaborative effort of the management and the union was a testament to the openness between the parties. This also showed that both parties continue to give value to industrial peace and the welfare of both the workers and the company.
